Lovely and gorgeous colours on the scarf. Not heard of a hitchhikers scarf though. Where did you get your pattern from Di?

Thanks all.
I hadn't heard of it either Cath, had to look on google lol.
The pattern is a freebie from Ravelry, but it's very simple. I will put it on later when I'm back from work.

Hitchhiker pattern
4 ply wool, UK size8 (4.0mm) needles. (I used about 1.5 x 100g balls but made it fairly long.)
Worked in all knit stitches.
kfb = knit front & back same stitch (this is increase)

Cast on 3 stitches.
1st row - k1, kfb, kfb
Rows 2/4/6/8 - knit across
Rows 3/5/7/9 - k1, kfb, k1, kfb, knit to end
10th row cast off 6, knit to end

Repeat rows 1 - 10 three times (40 rows) then continue in pattern except cast off 7 instead of 6 on the 10th row.
Work until length you require.

Thanks for that Di. Do you think it is better in a finer wool? I've got lots of Dk I need to use.

Re: Knitting

I just did as the pattern said Cath, as I had to buy the wool. It does mean its a loose knit (4ply usually on 10's) so makes it feel light and soft. I would think dk on a larger size needle might work, usually done on size 8 so maybe just go to 7, and will be a bit wider when finished.
Knit a few rows and see how it feels. Maybe you could cast off extra stitches on the 10th row, possibly 9/10 rather than 7, you would just end up with slightly larger points but a bit less added to the width.

Using the four ply and larger needles makes it quite light and easy to handle Alison, all knit stitch too so you may be ok.

:)
It's my fingers moving that will be the issue, but I will give it a good go and just doit for short lentghs of time to see how long I can. I don't massage very often now as my fingers suffer for hours after. Still little and often will get it done. Also will have to shut myself away cos Wilson will think it is a good game, lol I've copied the pattern and I did see some nice colours of wool when I went looking for yours. I will check to see if they have had a delivery when I go get a couple of balls to do this.

Thanks for looking but I will have enough of mine now that Karelyn has found some.

There are some really pretty wools about now, some horrendous prices too!
I hadn't done any for years so my hands ached for the first few days, not too bad now but I still limit my time doing it. Certainly can't carry on for hours like I used to.
