Christmas 2016

Post by lyndaejane on Fri 18 Nov 2016 - 15:59

Karelyn and I, who have been running the swaps recently, have been discussing Christmas, on the basis that we are now so few in number and maybe we should do things a little differently this year. Unless there's any objections from anyone, we thought we should drop the Secret Santa, as not everyone goes in for it and the numbers who do join in would be very low.

We think that we should keep the Forum Christmas Card swap but, in view of the fact that we're now such a small group, we'd love it if everyone joined in. Yes, we know that Maria doesn't 'do' Christmas and that some of you don't always join in the swaps, but it's the one chance in the year for you all to show your appreciation of the friendship we all get from belonging to the forum.

For those who still feel we should put a little more into Christmas, Karelyn has suggested that you could make a tree ornament to enclose with your card. The swap will be split into two parts, so that those who only wish to make a card will receive a card from others of like mind, and those who wish to make an ornament will receive a card with an ornament.

Just to cover the ground again, the Forum Christmas card is a card which will be sent to one other forum member, but will have inside it a message to everyone on the forum. You will receive a PM telling you who your recipient will be.

Sign up by December 12th, cards to be posted by the Last Posting Date (not sure what that is, as I don't have the leaflet from the PO).

CARD ONLY

LOL, Cynthia - difficult with pets, I know. A friend of mine has been persuaded to have a real tree, by her daughter who is staying with her at the moment - she's worried that her male dog will cock his leg against it! You don't have to just hang ornaments on the tree, though: I hang them on cupboard and door handles as well. Will add your name.

I have PMed you all with details of your swapees: have tried not to repeat any people you have sent to or been sent from in the last few years, but I'm afraid I've got one set of partners who are going to receive from each other - sorry!

To re-iterate the instructions for the card: the greeting you put inside will be not only for your recipient but also for the whole forum.

When you receive your card/card and ornament, please post pictures on the gallery that our esteemed leader, Lorraine, will kindly set up for us all.

Post by WeirdCat on Tue 20 Dec 2016 - 9:42

As anticipated by me despite having all the time off to do the thing I am last minute, I had the base made for two weeks but inspiration wasn't my friend when it came to what the top layer should be but Saturday was my friend as was Lynda. I received a beautiful ornament and card from Lynda yesterday in a box. This told me the postage I needed (my item is lighter than Lynda's is) and gave me a way of packaging up everything so it'll be going 1st class this morning. Have to go out in a bit so will take a picture tomorrow in daylight. Thank you Lynda

You're very welcome, Ruth. Those boxes are great, aren't they: almost impossible to find ones that are less than 25mm high, so you usually end up constructing one from another box. Worth the 50p or so they cost (25 for 13.19).
