coffee splodge

Post by Maria on Sat 22 Nov 2008 - 15:53

Well Im really pleased with this one - did it following an online class. This was taken two and a half years ago and is such a lovely photo of Ken - I scrapped it before, but in an album for Patty and i wanted one myself. They were out here around my birthday and Patty had made a 'coffee splodge' as a birthday treat (noone else likes it thankfully so I get to eat the lot myself).

That's lovely, unusual to see the black background but it shows everything up so well.

I loved this photo, and still do! We all look so happy and carefree there. Coffee splodge is horrendous Billie!! An old, old Family Circle recipe from her childhood which has become a sort of birthday tradition - but as she says, nobody but her will eat it!

That's really gorgeous, Maria. Love the colour choice and the stamped swirl is totally super.

I want more details on this splodge though.

I like the thread through the flowers too.
Also awaiting more details on the splodge, I'm wondering if it's similar to my SIL's speciality which she calls ecstasy which is layers of breadcrumbs/cake crumbs and instant coffee, jam and whipped cream left over night, it's delicious.

No - coffee splodge is made of instant coffee/hot chocolate powder, egg yolks, 0.75 pint of whole milk, cornflour all mixed and brought to the boil, then egg whites whisked up with sugar and then all mixed in with a small tin of evaporated milk. Then add gelatine, whisk all together, tip in a mould and leave to set. Yuck! I can hardly imagine anything more sickly than this, but she loves it, bless her!!

Well, that splodge sounds just my cup of tea. A rich, creamy coffee/choccy pud. Pound to a penny I'd love it too, Maria. Mr Green

sounds just up my street too, i love sickly sweet puds.

i love condensed milk eaten off the spoon, thats how sweeet i i like.

we used to have sugar sandwiches to take on the beach, or lettuce straight from garden with sugar sprinkled on in a sandwich.

super layout, but i cant read the writing...and i am nosy. Smile well just a bit nosy.

i love the swirlies...sorry 'flourishes'

Right - that's settled .... next CC weekend I shall make and bring a coffee splodge with lots of spoons!!! But I don't want any left over to bring home thanks very much - and that, of course, should ensure that Mia comes to the weekend too!!!

ubet.

if you look carefully at the pic you will see that Ken has opted for a potted dessert - looks like creme caramel and the bowl of cherries on the table must have been for Patty. Did you notice that I was having to down a bottle of red wine in anticiaption of the coffee splodge. There is nothing like it but its light, fluffy, mousse like, and coffee/choc flavoured.

I think I need to try it, also a lover of condensed milk.
My standard party dish is caramel shortbread, and I think it sets because I eat just the right amount form the tin, after I've poured a bit less than the recipe requires into the pan. LOL
