April; Book Theme

Post by thriftycrafter on Sat Mar 28, 2015 3:47 pm

Lynda suggested a theme of books, so I googled; images book art. WOW, do it, then be relieved that I'm not going to ask you to swap anything like that.

Anyway April's swap on the theme of books is to make a matchbook and 'fill' it with something of your choice e.g; a piece of stamped art, a selection of stamped phrases, ephemera (love that word) the size is the limit. ;)

The contents could be removable or to remain as part of the craftwork.

Please make two this month girls.

All comers on this, family/visitors can join in too, as long as we can have the address to send theirs to.

LOL, like how you've signed up Lorraine whether she likes it or not! Me too, please, Karelyn: love the idea of the matchbook. If you wanted your recipient to have the choice of using the artwork, you could do two the same - one for them to keep in the matchbook and one to use. Then we could have pictures of what people had made with them, too.

BTW, you can also fit an After Eight Mint into a matchbook. Not very artistic, though.

It's like those flimsy strips of matches, inside a cardboard cover, that you used to get from restaurants and suchlike, Maria. Bottom section was folded up about half an inch and stapled through the strip holding the matches; top section was folded down, with two folds about an eighth of an inch apart to give space for the match-heads, and tucked into the bottom section to close it. You'll just need to make the matchbook the size which will accommodate your contents.

This is what they looked like:

Not being too fussy on the size, I was going to find one and copy that, but here you go Maria, you in?

Re: April; Book Theme

Post by Maria on Sun Mar 29, 2015 3:41 pm

ahh I see, well two would be nice, they dont look too onerous and its nice to have things from two different people isnt it.

so we make a match book like that diagram, and then decorate it and put something in it? is that right?

do put me down for it anyway

Yes exactly that maria, decorate and fill as you please.
Yes, I think 2 things are nice to receive and as you say as tricky/simple as you want to make it. Could even be made in fabric (Lorraine) Wink

Thanks KT, a productive mess you made there then, as seen on FB.

Also, with two, you don't have to put the same goodies in each, or decorate them the same.

ok Ive made the two of them, they are dilly little things, what a nice idea and making two is good for the indecisives like me who cant decied which paper to use etc.

QUESTION: do the things inside them have to be stuck in (attached) like the matches were or are they free so you can take them in and out?

Whatever you think best, I think it depends on the items, don't tell us, could be temp adhered for transport if that helps. I have an idea which involves one being a permanent fixture and another removed for use by the recipient.
Loving the thought of 'Dilly little things' fab name for a shop.

Right it's two we're making then :)
