Di's Sweet & Sour Sauce

Post by Lorraine on Thu 22 Jan 2015 - 23:05

I (Di that is, not me) make my own Sweet & Sour sauce, not as claggy (is that a word? lol) and you can have it less sweet than the shop bought ones if you want to. Done in microwave usually, though I have done it in a saucepan too.

2oz chopped pineapple (tinned and I use some of the juice instead of all water) and 2oz chopped onion into bowl, cover and cook 3 mins on full power.

In a jug blend 1tbls vinegar, 1tblsp sugar, half tblsp tomato puree, 1 dessertsp cornflour, 2 teasp soy sauce and half pint of water. Cook uncovered 4 mins full power, stirring every minute or so.
Stir in the pineapple mix and cook another 2 mins.

lol, thanks Lorraine.
As I said on another post, if you like your S&S a bit sharper add more vinegar and if sweeter a bit extra sugar. Easily adjusted to your taste.
