Norwich City Dinner

Post by thriftycrafter on Wed 14 May 2014 - 11:48

It was quite a subdued evening in some ways, as the players and management were crushed at being relegated, but the right words were said and they all have a future, the club is in a good place financially and no changes Have to be made to the team, although some may choose to leave is silly offers come their way. We're all looking at a year down and back up again next year, it's been done before.

2nd player of the season; Martin Olsunn, player of the Season; Robert Snodgrass, and our dinner companion almost England Goalie; John Ruddy, he was listed as 4th for the Brazil line up, another disappointment for him.
A very enjoyable evening despite the disappointment of being relegated.

Delia, I wish I could look this good at 70! Doesn't seem to have had 'work done' either, was expecting a shed load of slap up close, but no, she seems quite natural, with just a little make up, and obviously a good hairdresser. Her husband could certainly do with a bit of help in the clothing dept, but that is how he is. Nice people, very real.

Lovely pics, Karelyn - hope you've told us about the food somewhere else, though!

I'll do that now Lynda, didn't have a lot of time this morning.
We had Russian eggs to start which was 2 x hard boiled eggs with anchovies, pickled cornichons (tiny dill type things) and olives, garnished with homemade garlic mayonnaise.
Then beef braised in Guinness with half an onion on top, boulangeres potatoes (a rectangle of slices potatoes which had been cooked together tightly packed lasagne style.) carrots and leeks.

Then;
Chocolate Ricotta Cheesecake (majorly yummy) with chilled pouring cream, this had very long chocolate curls on top.
Coffee ( I had tea) and 'Something sweet' which turned out to be white or milk chocolate truffles.
We had a glass of champagne on arrival and then bought our own drinks, but the lovely John Ruddy was presented with a Crystal vase and bottle of champagne and he gave the table his champagne.
All very nice, plenty there not piffling portions, and then we had the full English breakfast before leaving this morning, didn't feel like much lunch for some reason, and still not hungry now!

Thanks for the menu update, Karelyn: sounds yummy, although would have passed on the cheesecake - for some reason, I can't get my head round cheesecake with things like chocolate or caramel in it. Not surprised you're still feeling full!

I just googled and she's actually 72!
Jo, Mick is a Norwich boy and used to go to the matches as a kid with his Uncle, after we moved this way he started going again when I got 'kids for a quid' tickets. His new boss has a corporate membership with not quite a box but perks at the club and therefore a table at the dinner, he invited us along, lucky us!
I've just put Mick on the waiting list for a season ticket and bought him a club membership, that'll be his father's day sorted :)
