My Pinky arrived late morning.
For January I got Rachel's Sales, Nona's The Months and Olwen's
Stars and Stripes which was very topical with Obama's inauguration.

For the travels ATCs I got Nona's India, Gillian's Giant Redwoods (USA)
and Joy's Aussie parrot. He'll sit in my album next to my parrot - they can
keep each other company.LOL
Thanks everyone - fabulous selection as always.

Guess who's joined in our 'I Remember' ATC swap this month ?
Yes Goaty, at last; Hooray. I think she got jealous of what you lot were getting every month, as she kept coming and drooling over them. She still won't get her mitts on them untill all of yours are in the post though, not a peek or even a clue as to what she'll receive.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Here's the photo of our February's 'I Remember's

Top row = Me, Teabag .. Barbara (Kinetic).. Suz-Goaty (Kinetic)..
2nd row = .. Rachael .. Amullree.. Angela ..
3rd row = Barbara .. Olwen .. Mistyrat..
Bottom row = Joy.. Di.. Steph..
. . . A very nice lot as usual. One ATC in particular brought back old memories for me, one that I had forgotten about and was so pleasant.

Steph, the one that brought back memories was Sue's 'Gran's Button Box' I spent hours playing with my Nanna's button tin, sorting threading and arranging them in colours, even before I had started school. It is nearly one of my first memories.
I was a biker as well. I was the first girl (aged 17) in Kettering to have a moped, a Mobylette. I also held a licience for the large bikes and had fun trying them out but they were too heavy to hold up!!
It was lovely then not having to wear a crash hat. But I did have the full leathers when on the large bikes.

Maria, you make me laugh because you have really missed out on these. Not a hope of swapping with a Feb one, you should have joined in Crying Laughin Never mind you can always do next months.

Too late Maria, sorry, thay have been sorted and in their envelopes now.
I always use the last Tuesday in each month as the final day I must receive them by as Tuesday is the 'Fuller' meeting days and I must return their swaps by the next meeting.
I think Goaty might have a spare one if you ask her nicely though.
I am just doing the 'ALPHA-2F swap this morning. I've just taken the photos ready to put up.
Hope to get the 'YEAR-Feb's done this afternoon.

Yes, I liked playing with my Nan's button box, and I have a nice LO of Lauren and Jordan
playing with my button box. There's something about buttons, isn't there.

Re above post - There certainly is Steph, it revived happy memories that I had forgotten.

Girls, I have just had an idea that perhaps you might like to do after the photos are up.
It is to tell us all your own title to your ATC.
for example:. . . . . . my 'I Remember' = Bath Time
They can be interesting but I haven't time to put them all up.

The lucky folks got a tin bath but I only had a 'butlers' sink in a cold kitchen and a wash basin with hot water having to be boiled in the kettle.
I now call my shower 'my Posh Wash'. Thank goodness those days have gone.

My grandparents used to have a tin bath in the front room in front of a coal fire.

Re: 'FULLER' Monthly ATC swaps

Post by Guest on Thu 26 Feb 2009 - 14:19

Like I said Steph they were the lucky ones.

I use to envy the 5 kids over the road from me. Friday night was their bath night. The two eldest girls (must have been about 10 & 11) were allowed privacy and the first use of the water. Then the next girl was allowed her turn, meanwhile her mum was busy boiling water to top up the tin tub.
Then came the turn of the youngest and last two children, a girl of 4, my friend K, and her brother 3, were then washed together, whilst I stood envying them. (thinking of my cold sink)
This mum then went ahead and had another 6 children.
Eventually Mrs X and my mum ended up in the same care home 3 years ago.
They both had too much dementia to enjoy the reunion. Sobbing Sad.
But I met my first childhood friend again and some of her sisters.

Re: 'FULLER' Monthly ATC swaps

Here's another to add on to the same family, one little boy was born when the lights went out and the only light they had was a torch, a box of matches and a candle. The year was about 1948, that is what you really call emergencies. I didn't know anything about it at the time though, I was only 6. The family up and left during the next year. I didn't see my friend as she was 18 months older than me and that is a lot at that young age and I didn't see her again untill we met up at senior school. Needless to say I wasn't bullied by any in her class as a lot were.
My dad was a photographer then and we have a photo of that new born boy; I suppose they were glad of the old style flashlights after that shinanigan.
