Scraps

Post by karinlouise on Fri 23 Jul 2010 - 11:09

I'm tidying out my trays for bits of paper. I have one tray where all the offcuts go as I am making a card. Quite often the bits of card go into the drawers I have for coloured card, but the patterened paper just gets left in there, and of course it builds up.

Say you use an 8x8 sheet for an A5 card, it leaves a 2in strip and that gets put in the tray. Even worse if using a square card.

What do you do with the scraps of paper.

You could always make hem into a collage background, or maybe a
patchwork background. Use punches to cut shapes to go round borders
for layouts/cards. Use smaller nesties on them for journalling.

I'm lucky in that respect as I use a lot of my bits and pieces for
making postcards. That way they are distinctive and unique.

When I was off sick I used the strips to make backgrounds for cards, then you just need a topper. I did one wide strip then 3 narrower strips all going the same direction, in 2 contrasting patterns. I did 6 or 10 and have used most of them, very handy when you need a card in a hurry.

Oh wow, thanks for that. I must admit I've used for punches in the past but sort of forgot about that. Especially like the nestie idea, at least it would give me some nicer backings.

I actually did a card two weeks ago with strips horizontal, 5 wide ones with the tinest of borders. Thanks for that reminder, will have a go at that.

Ooo keep em coming. My brain is buzzing with ideas now.

I use mine for nesties and punching mostly. Sometimes, I use them to see how colour (from pens and paints take on them).

Well I've actually made a card today using two contrasting papers, each strip about 1.5 inch wide. Then I cut a dahlia nestie shape with scrap card as background for the circle image and layered it all up. Lovely baby card it is.

Also done three ATCs. 2 with strips and different bits on top and one just torn pieces like the dippy squares we've done before. Quite like the effect of it.

I remember that - you put a photo up.
I had forgotten to mention ATCs but you thought of it anyway.
The only trouble is, as much as I often use scraps, I never seem to make
a dent in the drawer they are kept in.

Another thing Karin - if you have the Sizzix doll/Bitty dies, I bet Lily would
love to play at dressing up the dolls with pretty dresses, tops etc that
could be cut from papers and card.

I have a couple of bitty type clothes, but not sure they were for those dolls. I must admit the fact I am making a big effort to use the scraps on the few bits I have done means the pile has gone down a bit, of the patterned papers that is Mr Green

Just thinking again and realised I use a lot of scraps. Not long ago I made loads of cards out of my scrap box and I've done my swap pocket book with scraps too. A big scrap, yes but a scrap all the same. Mr Green

Love the av, Karin. Mr Green
