fete du lavoir

Post by Maria on Wed 26 May 2010 - 20:39

This was at the fete du lavoir (fete of the washhouse) last year.

The old communal lavoir was in a poor state and needed renovating (20 odd years ago). There are people alive in this village that can still remember it being in use. Anyway, they needed a grant and so a legend was 'found' (call me a cynic) and the old myth of this source having magical properties and specifically being able to cure eye problems was resurrected and sure enough they got the grant. the washhouse was restored and now every year once a year, thanks is given there for the 'miracle' (the miracle is that the commune pays for the aperatifs they serve after the speech of thanks). Its even got into one or two guidebooks.

The whole village turns out once a year for this fete, well for the aperatifs anyway! Just check out the colour of this magical water that has properties of curing eyesight.....

Lovely story and layout. Don't like the look of that water though!

Fab LO, love your choice of colours. Tell me they don't have to put the water in their eyes?

No, I'm not putting my 'to do' list here, that would be far to organised, PLUS I would have to keep it up to date  Laughing

What a great story, and love the LO Maria. Great pictures and the
papers are spot on. Like the others, feel that water doesn't look too healthy.

Yes, great story and I don't see many of them rubbing it in their eyes.
Great papers for this.

You've got to admire the French for their myths and stories and getting money to do stuff as a result, you'd rarely manage that here! Not sure if I'd give the water a try though
