What a lovely view those soliders have. I watched the festival of rememberance on Satuday night, most of it anyway and I was in tears for half of it.

Two pieces that made me think:

One by the solider after the silence. "When you go home, tell them that for their tomorrow we gave our today"

And the little boy giving poppies to be placed on the book "these poppies are from all the children to say thank you so that we can live free" this is how we taught lily in the first place about rememberance and the poppies, so to see it spoken like that made me cry.

Thank You

The first time I had my pic taken here was when I was around 14. I've been back many times since.

Oh Karin - the soldier's quote sent a shiver down my spine. It is so true.

It's called the Kohima epitaph and is "When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say,
For Their (sometimes 'our' is used) Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today" used at most Remeberance services.
One of the parade the kids were at yesterday there was a family who laid a wreath as their boy/brother/dad had been killed in Afghan. The parade commander started a round of applause, I just couldn't join in, so very moving. We missed the festival of rememberance makes us both cry that one.
We're taking y6 and poss 5 to the local cenotaph on the sea front for the 2 mins on Weds as it's not far from school. I don't think they've done it before but I suggested it and the teacher thought it was a good idea.
DS1 was on exercise so I'll be interested to find out what they did/do. He phoned at the weekend to say he's off to Canada in Jan for 3 months (the home of scrapbooking, wayhay).
