Tropics come to Leigh on Sea

Post by Guest on Fri 3 Jul 2009 - 10:15

I have had this stripey yucca in my front "seaside" garden for a year or two now but it has never flowered until this year. It is quite spectacular and makes a wonderful statement in the front. All the kids from the school opposite stop and look at it when they pass.

And here's a fairly close shot of the fantastic tropical looking blooms on the spire.

They're great when they flower aren't they? Lucky you, Patty. Mr Green

That's lovely Patty. Probably this tropical weather we are having made it
want to come out and play. Looks very near a wall - hope nobody breaks it
off. That's been happening to someone I know. So destructive.

fantastic mum. They flower here of course but I havent ever seen them flowering in the UK. Be careful when you have to go to deadhead it, those tips are lethal.

Lovely, mine is not out yet, the spike is only about 2 foot tall. Mine have flowered for the last few years, they are gorgeous.

Lesley has a very old one in her front garden, not the variegated leaves, and each year there are lovely long spikes of flower this year she has four spikes, the leaves are like razors though.
