Ericaceous stuff.....

Post by Lorraine on Tue 24 Mar 2009 - 10:50

Is there a food that is best recommended to feed and/or water acid loving plants in pots?

I don't want to introduce too much lime by using plain tap water, and I know there's something out there to help neutralise it but can't remember what it is.

Yes Lorraine, MIRACID - you can foliar feed or put it round the roots, or both, about once every three months or so, or more often if the leaves start to yellow. Also, do try and use rainwater if you water the tub, because that's the best for all ericaceous plants.

Glad to be of assistance!!

Would it be lime in the tapwater that made the top of the soil on my seedlings go a bit white last year then?

Yes, never use tap water on seedlings if you can possibly avoid it. You can use rainwater, or filtered water or just boil a kettle and leave it to get cold.
