Alcohol Inks

Post by lyndaejane on Sat 7 Feb 2009 - 17:59

Me again, asking questions!

I will shortly be hearing from DH the immortal words "What would you like for your birthday?" and I'm thinking of asking for some alcohol inks (appetite having been wetted by the class we did at the craft weekend). I don't think I will be using them all the time, so don't want to get every colour under the sun: what does everyone think would be a good range of colours to go for? I'm assuming that you can mix to get the shades you want (eg green with a bit of blue to give a bluey-green).

And is there anywhere that does a good price on them?

Thanks as ever.

Lynda

Ha, ha. Alcohol inks. Mr Green

If you like Earthy shades and deep tones, then go for the Ranger ones, Lynda. If though, you prefer bright vibrant tones then go for the Pinata range. I have lots of both and they both have their uses, but I do love the Pinata's.

http://www.rainbowsilks.co.uk/SubCategory.cfm?SubCatId=200
for your Pinata. I would also suggest you get the Extender or even better, get the Exciter set and you're well on your way.

Shop around for the Ranger inks as loads of places sell them. You can get them in sets of 3 for about 9.99 but some places sell them now in individual bottles.

http://www.cardcraft-uk.co.uk/index.php?cPath=121 for the sets and
http://www.craft-emporium.co.uk/index.php?cPath=61_268 for individual colours, just to start your search. Mr Green

Post by kimb on Sat 7 Feb 2009 - 22:27

it very much depends on the colours you use the most often lynda , have a look at the colours you work with most , it just might surprise you , when i did this exercise i though i worked more with pinks and lilacs and purples , then when i checked my bazzill cards i found id got loads of these colours , so it looks like i buy this colour often cos i like it , but i dont very often WORK with it but id used almost all of my green so its greens i work with the most , so id choose h2o's to go with the greens

I have quite a few ranger ones, i started out with one of those 3 packs which was butterscotch, cranberry and stream. Of course once you start you cant stop and you need more colours!

Once i got started after playing under Lous supervision at the craft weekend I found I needed more colours to play with Mr Green

Thanks, girls: will have a look at the links when I have more time. Glad I asked, though, as I didn't know there were two makes.

Guess what: I got the fateful question last night and Steve didn't understand why I burst out laughing!

There was no reply when I answered, Goaty. I was surprised actually, 'cause Lynda had posted hours before.

Right - have ordered the Pinata ink Exciter set. Will probably order a few individual Ranger ones too, but a couple that I think I might like are out of stock at the moment. Some interesting stuff at Rainbow Silks - haven't bought anything from them for years, and then it was embroidery bits.

That's interesting, Lou: shall compare the card from you to the samples from the craft weekend, which were done with Ranger - that way I can see the differences.

Hmmmm, got me thinking now. I'm sure they were the Pinata's, but wouldn't swear to it.

I had all of mine at the craft weekend and I know we used all of them there.

I was using Ruth's (thankyou, Ruth), as she was sitting next to me and I'm pretty sure they were all Ranger. That's why I hadn't realised there were two sorts.
