Die that wont cut

Post by Guest on Thu 29 Jan 2009 - 18:52

I received my cuttlebug for Xmas and have now got 2 embossing folders but not many dies. I bought a Boss Kut because I really like it and the ad said that it would work in the Cuttlebug. The first time I used extremely thin paper and it cut, well just, then I tried a piece of thin card and it just doesn't cut right through. I believe I need to use something else, but can you tell me what?

Also, one or my "B" plates is curving. I have turned it over and it is still usuable but I did wonder it this was usual.

They do bend Jan, and get very marked when you are cutting so don't panic.

Try putting an extra piece of card between the bottom 2 plates, just to add a bit of extra thickness to the sandwich. This usually helps the dies cut better, you may have to try different thickness of card or paper to get it right.

I did try a piece of card (extra) but I have to admit that I put it on top of the first piece of card. Didn't help much though

Try using an A, B and C plate instead of 2 B's Jan.

I must admit I have the big shot and I bought a boss kut die not long after, I use the sizzix adapter for it. The little black square thingy. ALthough I also have a wizard adapter plate too and that works. They are about 2mm thick but of course wont squeeze like card will if used.

it will probably be a case of trial and error til you find a way of getting a good clean cut . i use a couple of envelopes when using one that does not cut so well .

other tip from the sizzix man about another machine..was to put sellotape on the die if there are delicate pieces which dont cut properly..or that stick in the die and are hard to remove.

Well I have added a bit of cardboard to the layers and I can now cut thin paper - just. Its a very finicky die and some of the corners are very hard to separate from the rest of the paper. Still just wont go through thin cardboard, very disappointed. Don't think I will consider Boss Kut again

Lou, I am already using "C"

There are a few sites that give you details/ideas Jan, google what you are looking for and you may find some help.

Di thanks for those two links but to be honest I am using the plates just like they say, except the youtube one where they put them into the sandwich in a different order AND I am putting an extra layer of card in but it will still only cut thin paper, nothing of quality.

Sue, OK maybe it will be obvious to you but WHERE do I stick the sticky tape, I mean which side. I cannot see how sticking it either side will make any difference. Or do you mean stick it to the card I am trying to cut?
