I have a willow, not weeping, at the bottom of the garden which has always been on the H as they say round here, we've had it propped up with a stick for a few years so that it doesn't tilt any further (and hit the shed).

It's about 20 +' long/high, if I cut it back will side shoots appear at the trunk or will I kill it? I really don't want to dig it up, but don't want to lose it, I'd just like it to grow straight up not at a 35 degree angle.

The lower trunk ...

This is the monstrous state of my back garden and I've set myself the task of having this sorted within the next month. I have a skip out front ready and waiting for all this lot plus junk from the shed. I shall be tackling this single handedly and if that doesn't help my weight loss, nothing will. Most years it's fairly tidy, but I never touched it last year so it's really quite a mess.

I love lillies and like to grow them in pots on the terrace, when they have flowered I usually transfer them to the flowerbed. About 8 years ago I replanted two pots of orange lilles; they have done really well, especially given our nasy wet, heavy clay - they've flowered every year, and increased in size too.

So, what's the problem you say - very simple last year we didn't have any orange lillies, only white ones. This year too, a gorgeous show of WHITE lillies, any bright ideas?

I have had this stripey yucca in my front "seaside" garden for a year or two now but it has never flowered until this year. It is quite spectacular and makes a wonderful statement in the front. All the kids from the school opposite stop and look at it when they pass.

And here's a fairly close shot of the fantastic tropical looking blooms on the spire.

They are called "Bambino" and are supposed to be dwarf plants for sowing in pots if you like. Info says: "Produces big yield of baby courgettes over a long period, needs well fed ground and regular watering for best results.
A little gardening blog for you.

After some trials and tribulations in recent weeks, I finally got some much needed time in my garden today. I weeded, hoed, deadheaded and generally had a good look at everything and there’s lots happening out there.

Whilst I was kneeling down weeding round the lupins, a bee decided it was time for work. I was so close to him but he completely ignored me. I spent a very pleasant 10 mins watching this little fella going about his business. He was gathering ...

I followed this guy round my garden this morning. Anybody know what bug it is? He's about 1cm long.

He started off on some brickwork....

then he decided to explore my roses. Showing off, he thought he's flash his skills at walking upside down.

Finally, after me taking about a dozen pics, he'd had enough. He shouted "Enough already", opened his wings and flew off.

I thought it was about time, after seeing the good efforts of you other gardeners, to get my sadly neglected back yard sorted out.

A brief story.

I bought the house 13 years ago, and My Nana bought me a jasmine plant to put in the back yard. I bought another to go with it. I looked after them for 10 years. Remember when I was off sick about 3 years ago, with stress and depression? Well, I lost all interest in "outside" and became a bit of a recluse.

Geoff has turned that around, ...

When I was at work this morning I did some watering (folk are away) and in one of the borders came across one of these, absolute picture. The flowers are large and such a show. Had a look at the label and it is called Empress. Found pic here.

This morning there was a blue tit chick hanging on for dear life to a thin branch of my rose bush, his mum was going up to the fat balls hanging of my basket hanger then flying down to feed it, suddenly another chick flew down and tried to sit on the same branch which promptly bent down with the weight and they both fell off, the mum flew down and chattered away at them then they all flew of to the fence and she carried on feeding them.
